Visual Observations August 2001 by DMS members

Unfortunately, also in August 2001 bad weather conditions during both Perseïd maximum nights. Almost the whole of the Netherland was clouded out, except some regions in the south which experienced soms short duration gaps between the clouds. Belgium observer Michel Vandeputte had more luck in de night of 11/12 august. And the nights 10/11 and 13/14 august too were both clear from Belgium. Again Belgium observers had better weatherconditions this time. From the Netherlands, at last skies cleared during the night 14/15 august. Many observers in action that night. At the end of the month we had a serie of clear nights and some Aurigids and early Piscids were observed.
In total 12 Dutch and Belgium DMS observers saw 825 Perseïds, 78 Aquarids, 5 Capricornids, 77 Kappa Cygnids, 26 Aurigids and 3 Piscids. Which makes, including the observed 931 sporadic meteors, a grand total of 1945 meteors.
In 17 different nights these observers were looking at the sky during 116,90 hours. So this makes august 2001 not a great month for meteorobserving. But, fortunately this year was a better one than the previous two years. See also table 3 for a short overview of the last six years.
