Leonids 2001: Photographic Results at Xinglong station

Overview of Xinglong station as seen from the 2.16 meters telescope. In the middle is the Schmidt dome and the observing terras in front of it.


This is the observing roof at the Schmidt telescope from where we perforemed our observations. Visual observers were located in the large area just in front of this picture, photographic and videosystems were setup at the rectangle at top of the observing roof.

An earthgrazing Leonid. Note the mountains with the head of Leo just above them at far lower left on this guided image. Also note Praesepe, the Beehive cluster in Cancer at right.


A -2 Leonid. The head of Leo is at lower left on this picture. Note at lower right Praesepe, the Beehive cluster in Cancer. Another faint Leonid is at far left on this photo.


12 Leonids are on the original picture of which 9 are easily visible on this photo.


A Leonid fireball with two flares and drifting persisting train photographed from Xinglong station on november 18 at 17:47:43 UT. Another three faint meteors are visible at lower left on the picture. Exposure is 12 minutes with a 1.4/50 stopped down to 1.8


Guided all-sky photo in the night of november 19/20. The California nebula, Barnards loop in Orion, Orion nebula and lots of other deep sky objects are visible on this photo. Note the zodiacal light below the Lion. Exposuretime of this photo is 30 minutes.
